One of the second batch of these locomotives delivered in September 1879 abourd the ship "Niobe", originaly of very american appearance they were rebuilt with Belpaire fireboxes and conventional chimneys in the early 1900s. The class spent much of their life as bank engines at Murrurundi and Penrith and finished their days on Newcastle and Illawarra coal traffic. All were scrapped between 1927 and 1937. ARHS Bulletin 1980 page 34 has a rear on shot of 1006 at Marulan South under hire to Southern Portland Cement in 1928. This photo proves that 1006 did carry its post 1924 number.
Byways of Steam 3 page 8 has an undated photo of 1006 carrying it J134 number.
